Salt Marshes Part I

Sketches and thumbnail sketches of salt marshes viewed from Magnolia Cemetary. The mosquitoes were horrendous that day - sketched some standing up - had to keep moving - seriously, the mosquitoes were many and relentless. Finally had to head back to my car and sketch from there with the windows rolled up and the a/c running. A lone mosquito made it into my car and feasted on me repeatedly...good times...

make me want to go out and sketch, haven't done that for quite some time...

Thanks for the comments - this is such a beautiful cemetary - it really is more like a park than a cemetary. It is famous for having many civil war soldiers buried there.

Nice plein air marsh sketches. I agree with you that the marshes a constant source of artistic inspiration.

About the problem of fighting mosquitoes while on location in the marsh - I use a gadget called the "ThermaCell" Mosquito Repellent appliance. I got mine in the camping section at WalMart. It uses a small propane cartridge to heat a repellent infused material that keeps biting bugs away for hours. It works great if it's not too windy.
